Maru Mormina is a Senior Researcher and Ethics Advisor at the University of Oxford. She was formerly Reader (Associate Professor) at the University of Winchester. With training in both the life sciences and the social sciences, Maru’s main research interest is on the role of knowledge and expertise in the development process of low and middle income countries, with particular focus on applying ethical and decolonial theories to the study of research partnerships and capacity building approaches. Her current research unpacks the role of scientific advice during the Covid-19 pandemic by critically engaging with the politics of expertise and its colonial baggage and asking whether the current system of scientific advice is well-equipped to respond to the global challenges of a post-Covid world.
