Patrick is the James Taylor Chair in Landscape and Livable Environments at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada.
He also works as a senior researcher at UBC's Design Centre for Sustainability. He began his academic career at the University of Minnesota.
Furthermore, Patrick has worked as Director of Planning and Community Development for the City of Westfield Massachusetts and at Moriarty Condon Landscape Architects in Minneapolis and Vancouver. Since 1996 he has been involved in PMC Associates Community Planning in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Patrick holds a master's degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Massachusetts. He has published several books on sustainable city design and received numerous awards such as the Canadian Institute of Planners Award for Planning Excellence and the American Society of Landscape Architects Honor Award for Research, both in 2010.
