Stephan has been working at Schwulenberatung Berlin, an information and counseling centre for LGBTI people in Berlin, Germany, for 15 years. He is currently department manager for HIV/STI-Prevention and Refuge. From 2013 on, with the emergence of the Russian anti-gay propaganda legislation, a growing number of LGBTI refugees from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia came to Germany. Challenges arose with the arrival of a huge number of refugees from the Middle East in 2015. Hence, Stephan developed and established the Schwulenberatung Berlin's information centre, accommodation facility and counseling service for LGBTI refugees in 2015.
